Progesterone (First Progesterone MC5, Progest, Prometrium) medication guide

Overview and Benefits

Progesterone is a female hormone which is responsible for the regulation of menstruation and ovulation. The drug is prescribed to women who have not yet reached menopause but are not getting their periods due to the lack of progesterone.

The drug works by causing menstrual periods. It may also be prescribed to prevent overgrowth in the uterus lining in the postmenopausal women who are using estrogen hormone replacement therapy.

Progesterone should not be taken to prevent dementia or heart disease. The drug can increase the risk of developing these conditions.

To ensure the safe use of Progesterone, let your doctor know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Peanut allergy
  • History of breast cancer
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Had a blood clot, heart attack or stroke in the last year

Use Progesterone as prescribed. Read and understand the medication guidelines, patient information and other instructions before you start using the drug.

The capsule should be taken with a full glass of water. The best time to take the medicine is at night. This is because the drug can cause drowsiness or dizziness.

Use the progesterone cream as directed.

This drug is at times prescribed for a short period of time; about 10 to 12 days. This is done during each menstrual cycle. Follow the instructions of your doctor carefully. You should also submit to physical exams and do self-examine for lumps in the breasts.

You may need to stop taking your dose if you are scheduled for surgery or need bed rest. Let all your doctors know you are using progesterone.

It is unknown if Progesterone can cause harm to an unborn baby. Let the doctor know of your plans regarding pregnancy. The active ingredients can pass into breast milk and harm a nursing baby. Let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding a baby.

I have ordered and received 2 orders of my prescription drugs from Genericdoctor so far this year and the service was so excellent plus the replies were so polite and so generous to help me to put in my orders and how to pay for them plus received my drugs in 7 days which I felt was really fast service coming from India to USA. Yes, I am well pleased with your company and your service plus the products are excellent and work for me very well and the prices are very reasonable. Thank you for everything you do for me in order to get my medications which I need badly as I am 74 years old and have several ailments and the worst of which is Severe Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease from smoking cigarettes on and off and mostly on for 50 years. I quit smoking in 1997 and could not breathe in the summer of 2002 and my doctor sent me for all kinds of tests on my heart and lungs and they came back . Best of everything to all of you, Louise Magee
