Common use

Soloxine tablet is primarily used to manage hypothyroidism, a condition wherein the thyroid gland fails to produce sufficient thyroid hormones. This medicine belongs to a class of medications known as thyroid hormones. In addition to managing hypothyroidism, this tablet is also used for managing goitre, which is an enlarged thyroid gland, and certain types of thyroid cancer. In some cases, doctors may prescribe this medication to test for hyperthyroidism or treat myxedema coma, a severe complication of hypothyroidism.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Always take this medicine on an empty stomach or as prescribed by the doctor. Make sure you take it simultaneously every day for the best results. Do not take more than your doctor has recommended, and never stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor first.

Precautions

If you're pregnant, it's best to consult your doctor before taking Soloxine tablet. This is to ensure the health of both you and your baby. Nursing mothers should take Soloxine only if prescribed by a doctor. During this period, regular monitoring of thyroid hormone levels is necessary.
If you have liver problems, caution is advised when taking Soloxine. Caution is advised if you have a history of kidney problems. Consult your doctor before starting this medicine.

Contraindications

Soloxine tablet is contraindicated if you're hypersensitive to thyroxine or any other ingredients in the tablet. Always inform your doctor about all allergies before starting this medicine.

Possible side effect

Drug interaction

Antacids containing aluminium or magnesium: Medicines like aluminium hydroxide and magnesium carbonate can affect how well your body absorbs Soloxine, reducing its effectiveness.
Calcium and iron supplements: These may also interfere with the absorption of thyroxine, the active ingredient in Soloxine.
Cholesterol-lowering medications: Medications like cholestyramine and colestipol can hamper the absorption of thyroxine.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of Soloxine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule. Avoid doubling up on doses without guidance from your doctor.

Overdose

If you accidentally take more than the dose of Soloxine, you may experience common symptoms like nervousness, irritability, and increased sweating. If these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor.

Storage

Keep Soloxine tablets in a tightly sealed, light-resistant container. Store at normal room temperature, between 15-30°C. Do not expose to excessive heat, cold, or damp conditions. Make sure to keep this medicine out of children's reach.
